Life is a journey, and every step we take, every decision we make, and every experience we have, contributes to shaping who we are as individuals. It's like we are all walking canvases, and each stroke of the brush, every colour that is added, creates a unique and beautiful masterpiece.
Don't fixate on what could have been
Sometimes we can get caught up in regrets, wishing we had made different choices or that certain events never happened. We may dwell on the past, wondering how things could have been different if we had acted differently. But what we fail to realize is that all those things that we regret or wish never happened were just as impactful in creating who we are now as the happy times were.
Think about it; every hardship, every challenge, and every failure has taught us valuable lessons that we wouldn't have learned otherwise. Each experience, good or bad, has taught us something about ourselves, our strengths, our weaknesses, and our resilience. It has all contributed to making us stronger, wiser, and more compassionate human beings.
We all have ups and downs
Take a moment to reflect on your life. Think about all the things that have happened to you, both good and bad. I know I’ve experienced my share of trials and tribulations throughout my life. I’ve lost some very important people along the way including my beloved younger brother, Dan, who was brilliant beyond his years and gone long before his time. Trust me, I understand the feeling of “life isn’t far”. We've all wallowed in self pity at some point or another.
I was forced to face some of my biggest fears when I walked away from a long term relationship that had left me feeling worthless and useless. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but in doing so I found a strength I didn’t know I possessed and a love for myself that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
Going through that gave me the opportunity to rediscover who I am, who I want to be and what my passions are. I found a wonderful man who makes me feel loved and respected unconditionally. I have 4 incredible children who I'm so proud of and love with all my heart. All of these experiences, whether positive or negative, have helped to shape me into the person I am today.
What's done is done
Imagine for a moment that you could erase all the events that you regret or wish never happened. Would you still be the same person you are now? The answer is likely no. You would be someone completely different, with a different set of experiences, skills, and perspective.
God knows that I would love nothing more than to bring my brother back, but all the “what ifs” and “if onlys” will just keep you stuck in a miserable place. After all, there’s nothing we can do to change the bad things that have already happened to us. We can only make changes within ourselves to help bring about a better future.
We mustn't get caught up in the negatives and let them overshadow all the positives. No matter how hard it is, we need to trust that everything we go through is part of our journey and meant to ultimately lead us to where we are supposed to be in this life.
Keep On Keepin' On
So, the next time you find yourself dwelling on the past, remember that every experience, every decision, and every moment has culminated in creating who you are today. Embrace your journey, learn from your mistakes, and cherish every moment because they have all contributed to making you the unique and wonderful person you are today.
